Hanukkah Rocks – The Leevees

Originally posted to S&R blog.

For too long, Western holiday music has been dominated by the overwhelming cheer of Christmas. So, for the first New Music Monday Holiday Edition it’s time to veer in a different direction like we have all year, and what a better way to do it than by celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the greatest Hanukkah album I know. The brainchild of Adam Gardner of Guster and David Schneider of The Zambonis, this collection of holiday songs explore all of the weirdness and joy that us members of the tribe experience during the modern holiday season -from watching your Goyim Friends celebrate the more popular holiday, engaging in the endless debate of latke condiments (Applesauce vs. Sour Cream), and, of course, asking the age-old question How Do You Spell Chunnukkah? The LeeVees created the perfect music to play while lighting the candles, frying some potatoes, and spinning the dreidel to win all of the gelt. This album definitely landed on gimmel.

Happy Holidays!!!
