We Can Live Here Forever – Barely Civil

It’s a bold move, getting every member of the band to sing, and occasionally scream, in unison to begin the LP. If you’re looking to announce your arrival with an attention-grabber, though, you could definitely do much worse. It doesn’t set the tone so much as set up an early twist – the bomb Barely Civil drops at the open leaves debris that gives way to something much more controlled and melodic. The expectations from the first two and a half minutes settle into the true nature of this band, with one, solid vocalist and sweeping guitar riffs. Lost // Found is the album’s true opener, and it seems like a perfect encapsulation of the rest of the album. Each song feels like a unique but noticeable variation on this musical theme, and that’s exactly how you want to debut your sound to the public. Still, the opener leaves the possibility of variance, and that tension remains until the close, where I Am Drowning returns us to the chaos and uncertainty we entered with. I don’t know about forever, but I could definitely live here for a while.
