Spectrum – Shoshana Bean

Not everything has to be original to be great – sometimes you just want something usual to move your eardrums in just the right way. It helps, of course, when it’s done in exceptional and unexpected ways. This collection of standards and covers comes straight out of the Postmodern Jukebox talent pool, as Shoshana croons her way through song after song, some familiar and some less so. A bit of jazz, a bit of blues, all soul. Unlike the work of the Jukebox, however, Shoshana goes for a sound far more actual modern, despite the old-styled arrangements, as each track pops with its own energy and pace. With a neat finger of scotch and a filtered cigarette, you can close your eyes and have an entire night at the lounge from opening to close. That’s just what my eardrums needed.
