Encore – Anderson East

Everything old is new again – sometimes it takes something so obvious to jar the senses back to feeling. That’s how it works for me, anyway. Hearing music that makes so clear it’s time and place and influence has a way of loosening the rut I can find myself in, when nothing seems to give me the goosebumps feeling of a new experience. Anderson East’s fourth full-length effort does just that, by playing up the bluesy gospel-filled Mayer-esque singer-songwriter beats to a T, until the final note plays into silence. From opening to close, my mind feels reborn in the warmth of a familiar friend, who I’d forgotten and ignored. There is no better to start a new year of searching for the best in new music than an album so perfect for resetting. Enjoy this one with a fine wine or a glass of bourbon, and Happy New Year.
