Out of Line - CBDB

It’s around the half-time breakdown of the chorus towards the end of the opening tack, Patterns, that I realize this band isn’t really following their own. Maybe I need to dive deeper into their previous efforts, but to my ears this was already sounding markedly different – tighter, disciplined, and refined. That’s to be expected from any artist on their third album, but typically for jam-bands that kind of polishing can be a negative to the studio sound. That couldn’t be further from the truth, as each of the songs manages to feel loose and free despite the extra layers of gloss that experience can bring. It helps, of course, that each of the 7 compositions is exceptionally strong and are all a great listen in their own right. IF there is still hope for guitar music in 2018, it’s coming from bands like this.
