Whats Better? Strap Locks vs Strap Blocks
I made a video about the difference between strap locks and strap blocks, and I said, "We're going to put it to the test, see which one's better." Well, we have a clear winner. Today I was practicing and my strap locks on my guitar ended up busing. I was removing the strap from one of my other guitars, put it on my main strat, and while I was removing it, the strap locks just busted, fell apart.
It was ones that I got from Fender, so I imagine that the quality is there. I've had them for a while, so is it a fair, fair test? Probably not, but in this regard, I said which one's gonna break first is the clear loser. So let's get the phone cam. I'll show you what I'm talking about here.
As you can see, this piece is originally that ball right there and that spring holds that piece together and that is clear, clearly broken right there. Oh Anyways, I'll get some new ones. They're like $12 to replace. Not that big of a deal. So in the terms of durability, the strap blocks win.
So if you're going for something that you should want to set and forget about knowing that it will never come off, get the strap blocks. I've also found that you'll have to tighten these every now and then and adjust them. You can get lock tight glue or whatever it's called. You can get tight lock to help solve that, but strap locks or leave it and set it. If you're like me and you switch straps, I have one strap for when I'm sitting down, one strap for when I'm standing up, so I switch them pretty regularly.
If you're like that, I would get the strap locks, but if you just want one strap, set it and leave it, get the strap locks. So if you haven't checked out the first video, you can do so here, but now you know strap locks versus strap locks. We have a clear winner.
And until next time, let the music play.
