From The Fires – Greta Van Fleet

The tragedy of listening to the best classic rock has to offer is realizing that you’ll never know what it was like for that music to be new. Sure, it was for you at one point in time, but not the culture’s. Nobody reading this is going back in time to watch a Rocks-era Aerosmith gig, transporting to see the Stones tour America in ‘75, or seeing a new Dead performance with Jerry at the helm. Greta van Fleet, however, doesn’t care. From the opening notes, it’s as if Zeppelin has been resurrected, and that’s well before singer Josh Kiszka wails his first siren scream. The three Kiszka brothers and a friend from upper Michigan have recreated a style many, myself included, believed long gone. Sure, there have been flashes here and there from various artists, but never has the energy and grit of classic rock felt so present and vital. This is the type of album we crave, not just because it is great, but because we need more of it in our lives.
