Goin’ Platinum! – Robert Finley

Good music will take you at least one of two directions – up or down. The great farce, of course, is that music that takes you up only does so by way of euphoria while going down can scatter in a million directions. The arpeggios that grace the beginning notes of Robert Finley’s

sophomore studio effort don’t bring you straight down to hell, but rather sideways, to the bourbon cellar that graces music’s vast underworld. Each track feels somehow dirtier than the one before it, hitting exactly the notes you want to hear when the ground is ten feet above. It should be noted, though, that while good music takes you one place, great music can split you, and the best music that drags you down can lift you up as well. Sure enough, Goin’ Platinum’s basement has a well-lit stairway you can follow skywards, if you know where to look. That shouldn’t be too hard.
